Have questions about In The Egg?

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Getting Started
How do I get started?

After downloading the app, you can easily sign up with your email, Apple, Google, or Kakao account. Users aged 14 and older sign up with email or social login, while children under 14 sign up with a username and parental email verification.

How do I use the study timer?

Set your study goal time and start the timer. Eggs are generated based on your focus time, and cute pets hatch from the eggs you collect. The longer you focus, the rarer the pets you can discover!

How many types of pets are there?

There are currently 81 types of pets. You can find a variety of animals across 7 regions including Beach, Village, Forest, Desert, Grassland, Tropical Rainforest, and Wetland, along with special legendary pets waiting to be discovered.

Timer
What's the difference between Focus Mode and Normal Mode?

The two modes differ in how the timer behaves when you switch to another app during a study session. You can switch modes anytime by tapping the flame icon at the top of the Timer screen.

Focus Mode

  • The timer pauses when you leave the app. This records a more accurate study time spent without looking at your phone.
  • When you return to the app, the timer resumes from where it stopped.
  • However, when the screen is off or locked, the app cannot detect whether you're actually away, so the timer keeps running.
  • Best suited for deep-focus study.

Normal Mode

  • The timer keeps running even when you leave the app.
  • Convenient for watching online lectures or using another study app at the same time.
Account & Login
What is the difference between a parent account and a child account?

Children under 14: Sign up with a username (4–16 English characters) and a parent's email verification, and log in with the username.

Users aged 14+: Sign up with their own email and log in with their email.

Parent account: Sign up separately via "Start Parent Mode" on the start screen. Parent-only features such as a child's study statistics, connection, and gifts are available. Parent accounts can also use the regular child mode (timer, pets) — the mode is determined by the entry point (general login vs. parent login).

Conversely, accounts aged 14 or older that signed up in child (general) mode can also use Parent Mode by logging in through the parent mode entry point — useful when an older sibling or friend wants to cheer the child on. Accounts under 14 are blocked from Parent Mode under our child protection policy.

How does parental consent work when a child under 14 signs up?

When the child enters a username and a parent's email, a 6-digit PIN code is sent to the parent's email. Once the child enters the PIN, parental consent is completed and an official account is created. The PIN must be entered within 30 minutes.

How do I use Parent Mode?

On the start screen, tap "Start Parent Mode" and choose either "Parent Login" or "Create Parent Account". Once you create a new parent account or log in with an existing one, you'll enter Parent Mode where you can view your child's study time, goal completion rate, pet collection, and more. You can also link your child's account using a connection code and send virtual gifts.

How do I link a parent and child account?

In Parent Mode, go to the friends/connection menu and enter your child's username (or the connection code your child generated). Once linked, parents can view the child's study statistics and progress, and send virtual gifts.

Can I link multiple children to one parent account?

Yes. You can link multiple children — for example siblings — to a single parent account and view each child's progress separately.

How do I check my child's study statistics in Parent Mode?

In Parent Mode, the "Statistics" tab shows daily, weekly, and monthly study time, goal completion rate, and hatched pets for each linked child. You'll also receive a notification when your child hatches a new pet.

Can a child account log in to Parent Mode?

Users aged 14 or older can use Parent Mode even if they signed up as a child (general) account. Logging in through "Start Parent Mode → Parent Login" with the same account automatically grants Parent Mode privileges (data from child mode is preserved). However, accounts under 14 are blocked from Parent Mode for child protection reasons.

I forgot my password. How do I reset it?

It depends on your sign-up type.

Users aged 14+ who signed up with email: On the login screen, tap "Forgot your password?" and enter your registered email — a reset email will be sent. You can also do the same from Settings → Account Management → the "Forgot your password?" link in the Change Password dialog.

Children under 14 who signed up with a username: Enter your username on the login screen and tap "Forgot your password?". A screen will appear asking for the parent's email. The reset link will be sent to the parent's email registered at sign-up.

Social login (Google/Apple/Kakao) users: These accounts don't have a password. Please follow each social service's password reset policy.

How do I delete my account?

You can request deletion in two ways.

  • In-app deletion: Settings → Account Management → Delete Account
  • Email request: Send a deletion request to support_intheegg@canuselab.com along with the email address used at sign-up.

All personal information will be permanently deleted within 30 days of the request. Once your account is deleted, all data including study records, pets, and items will be permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.

Payments & Subscription
What is the lifetime pass and what benefits does it include?

The lifetime pass is a premium option you can purchase once for permanent use. It includes two benefits:

  • Lifetime access to Pet Village (Playground): Interact with pets that live autonomously in the village — feed them, place environment items, and watch them respond. The more you care for them, the more affinity grows.
  • Permanent ad removal: Ads disappear across the entire app.

You can purchase the lifetime pass on the in-app payment screen, where the current price is displayed.

Does the lifetime pass apply to other devices?

Yes — sign in with the same account and the lifetime pass is applied automatically. If it doesn't appear, tap the "Restore Purchases" button on the payment screen or in Settings to restore it. Purchases are managed per App Store (Apple ID) or Google Play (Google account).

How do I get a refund?

Refunds follow App Store / Google Play policies. Please request a refund directly on each store's refund policy page. Refunds cannot be processed inside the app.

Friends
How do I invite friends?

In Settings → "Invite Friends", you can generate an invite code to share, or use "Enter Invite Code" to enter a friend's code. First-time use of an invite code rewards 1,000 coins, and each user can use a code only once.

Study Methods
What is the Pomodoro Technique?

The Pomodoro Technique is a time-management study method that repeats cycles of 25 minutes of focus and 5 minutes of rest. By creating a rhythm of short, deep focus followed by brief breaks, it helps you sustain concentration for longer.

Basic flow

  1. 25 minutes of focus: Concentrate on a single study task.
  2. 5-minute break: Stand up or do a light stretch to refresh your mind.
  3. Repeat steps 1–2 four times.
  4. 15–30 minute long break: Rest fully after completing 4 cycles.
How do I use Pomodoro with In The Egg?
  • Set your timer goal to a short 25 minutes and break study into focused cycles.
  • Take a 5-minute break, then start the next cycle.
  • After 4 cycles (about 2 hours), enjoy a 15–30 minute long break to refresh.
  • When you reach your daily study goal, an egg hatches and you meet a new pet.

Breaking long study sessions into smaller chunks keeps your brain fresh and makes concentration easier to maintain. The small sense of accomplishment after each cycle makes it easier to build a steady study habit.

What is Timeboxing?

Timeboxing is a time-management method where you set a fixed time box for a task in advance — "I'll finish this within X hours" — and complete it within that box. Instead of fitting time to the work, you fit the work to the time, which helps reduce procrastination and focus on priorities.

Especially when you split a day into time boxes in advance, you can build a daily study rhythm and objectively track your progress.

How do I use daily timeboxes with In The Egg?
  • Set a daily study goal time as your big timebox for the day. Example: "Study 90 minutes today."
  • Inside the big box, split into smaller timeboxes (Pomodoro-style 25–50 minutes).
  • Use the calendar and statistics screens to review daily/weekly records and adjust the next day's box size.
  • Keeping the timebox at the same time each day helps build a study habit naturally.
What's the difference between Pomodoro and Timeboxing?

Both are time-based study methods, but they differ in unit and purpose.

  • Pomodoro: A small-unit focus technique that repeats 25-min focus + 5-min break cycles.
  • Timeboxing: A large-unit planning technique that allocates a fixed time box for a task or a day. Time length is flexible.

The two work well together. Filling a daily timebox with Pomodoro cycles lets you grasp planning and focus at the same time.
