Gambling mechanics
When randomised loot boxes stop being fun and start being gambling
Canuse comes from 'Can use' — a commitment to build things that are useful and worth having. Good games and bad games both plainly exist. We want to make the good ones, the ones worth your time — so that games become a genre loved as widely as music or film.
Keep adding sugar and sweeteners to make food tastier and, past a certain line, it becomes bad food. Games work the same way. Even something added for fun makes a game bad once there is too much of it.
When randomised loot boxes stop being fun and start being gambling
When the design means you have to keep paying to win
When all that is left is wasted time rather than progress
When more games chase value instead of the next quarter, games become a genre loved far more widely.
We do not build systems that ask you to pay for a roll of the dice.
No subscription, no repeat-purchase prompts. For In the Egg, the Lifetime Pass bought once is the whole of it.
We build games that leave something behind in the life outside the game, rather than eating away at it.
May games become, like music and film,
a genre far more widely loved.
In the Egg is Canuse Lab's first release — our first answer to the question "what is a good game?"
A focus timer where your child puts the phone down and Pets grow with every minute of focus, while parents join in with encouragement. Our first attempt at the good time a game can create.
